We don’t just have homes to rent at Yorkshire Housing, we build them too. We’ve got our own development team, our own unique house types and a focused development programme that plan to build 8,000 more over the next few years. We’ve already built over 2,100 of them and have another 2,000 in the pipeline.
We build homes for rent, low-cost ownership and market sale. Our smart homes are more energy efficient and sustainable, and more affordable to live in. Our new homes are sold under the Space brand, and we reinvest the profits into building more social and affordable homes across Yorkshire.

Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of how we build. Our house types include family homes, flats and bungalows. Our new housetypes have been designed to meet Nationally Described Space Standards (NDSS), which goes above and beyond policy requirements because we don’t just want to meet expectations, we want to beat them.
We help the community be more sustainable too, choosing sites that have good public transport links and are close to established communities so new homeowners have everything they need nearby. Our builds will be more energy efficient by using a fabric first approach and they’ll have enhanced insulation too. All of this will mean that we can meet the net zero requirement by 2050.
So, what does this actually look like?
Well, we've committed to:
- Provide affordable and sustainable homes with cost-effective heating, power and thermal efficiency
- Be one of the first housing associations to stop using gas heating and hot water (in our new build homes)
- Play our part in reducing the effects of global warming on homes and places
Did you know? We’re one of 23 strategic partners appointed by Homes England, and we’ve secured grant funding from the Affordable Homes Programme to help us deliver mixed tenure schemes in Yorkshire.
