On Saturday 10 December, seventeen Yorkshire Housing colleagues visited Lupset to talk to customers, tidy up and spread some Christmas cheer.
Lupset used to suffer from crime and anti-social behaviour, that’s why we're so keen to work with residents to help tackle any issues before they become a problem. They want to stamp out the stigma in the local area so people can be proud of where they live.
Despite the really cold weather, seventeen of our colleagues went door to door to speak to customers about what it’s like to live in Lupset and to listen to any ideas they have for improving the area. They also talked about the support that's in place to help with the cost-of-living and shared tips to help prevent damp and mould. They also did a spot of planting on Bevan place, took part in a litter pick, and provided a skip for customers – which was filled to the brim! There was even a visit from Santa and a wreath-making session!
Our colleagues received great feedback from residents who were very grateful for their time and highlighted the positives of living there and things that need improving:
“It’s a quiet place to live with a great community spirit”
“People are very friendly here and say hello to each other. Our neighbour even helps us with our gardening.”
“We think it’s really important that there’s a focus on making sure the right people are moving to the area.”
Natalie Rogers headed up the Big Day Out and said:
“We listened to what our customers’ were saying and we’re committed to improving the local area. We’re going to be more proactive and visible, and we want our customers to be proud of where they live.”
So, what’s next? Well, the work doesn’t stop here. Next year we'll be out and about speaking to more customers across Yorkshire. We’ll be working closely with partners to engage with customers and improve neighbourhoods.
