Celebrating our brilliant volunteers during National Volunteers Week

This week we’re recognising some of the exceptional people who go above and beyond in their volunteering efforts for Yorkshire Housing.

Our volunteers play a vital role working in our communities, selflessly dedicating their time and energy to make a positive impact on our customers’ lives.

In recognition of their hard work and commitment, we were delighted to present Clare, Lisa, Donald, Sandra, Kath, and Linda with certificates of appreciation for their contributions.

Let’s take a closer look at their inspiring stories:

Clare

Clare is a full-time local worker, who's working with us to make a real difference in her local area, Malton. Clare founded the “Activity Club” at Rainbow Community Centre and has played a huge part in running the group. From themed crafting to special occasion suppers and bingo, her creativity and dedication have made the club a great success!

She’s also been instrumental in bringing on board a Duke of Edinburgh student, who now volunteers for us as part of her award, creating opportunities for personal growth and learning.

Lisa

Despite facing disabilities that prevent her from working, Lisa discovered her natural talent for helping others when she started attending Yorkshire Housing coffee mornings. Inspired by her kind-hearted nature, she joined us as a volunteer in Malton and over the past year, we’ve seen her grow in confidence.

Lisa’s achievements extend beyond our organisation too, as she recently visited her son’s school to tell them about the valuable work she does. Her story serves as a great example of how powerful volunteering can be.

Donald and Sandra

These two are the unsung heroes of Pickering! Donald and Sandra have been the backbone of our activities in the town since April 2022, and consistently step in whenever their support is needed.

Events run smoothly all thanks to their involvement and loyalty, especially during times when other volunteers can’t make it. From Christmas parties to catering and games, Donald and Sandra’s commitment to supporting the community is truly invaluable!

Kath

Kath’s selfless dedication to volunteering makes her a shining example for others to follow and has been a volunteer at the Ingsgarth Centre in Pickering for over 3 years.

Her journey started with Pickering Food Share and then she gradually expanded her involvement to running the weekly bingo, and recently established a craft club where she’s making some bunting for Yorkshire Day on 1 August!

Linda

Linda is one of our newest volunteers and has successfully set up a clothes rail and upcycling club in Norton called “Winston Wardrobe Socials” with her friend Marnie. The initiative brings the community together weekly, providing a space for conversations, clothing finds and the repurposing of materials into new creations!

The success of the club so far reflects Linda’s vision and passion for creating new connections and promoting sustainability within the local community.

Community Independence Officer, Jennie Sharp said:

“I can confidently say we’d be lost without our volunteers. Their commitment, passion and generosity make such a huge difference to our communities and we’re really grateful for their support.

“National Volunteers Week serves as a reminder to celebrate and recognise the impact our volunteers have on our organisation and the lives they touch.”
