From the classroom to hard hats and hi-viz: inspiring the next generation of housing professionals

Colleagues from our land and delivery teams spent an afternoon with some aspiring planning students at one of our sites in Leeds.

The tour of our Springwood Park site in Bramhope was part of their introduction to housing development and planning for their housing supply module.

During their visit they explored the construction phase and were keen to learn more about the development process. This included land acquisition and planning, funding, affordable housing, and the role of Yorkshire Housing as a developer. We also talked about our approach to low carbon housing and Modern Methods Construction (MMC). Our Land Buyer Ed also studied at Leeds Beckett and completed master’s degree in Housing and Urban regeneration, so they had a good chat about his journey.

The trip was a great opportunity for the students to gain practical knowledge, and real-world insights into what life could be like after university. It was also a chance for them to apply their theoretical knowledge to the actual development site, which they could explore in a real-life context.

Our Land Manager, Marta Snopinska, said:

“It was a pleasure to have the Leeds Beckett students visit our site and to see their enthusiasm for the sector.

“We were delighted to share our knowledge and expertise with them and help inspire the next generation of planning and development professionals!”
