In our latest customer blog, customer voice and review committee (CVRC) member Pat Gibb shares some of the opportunities she had since she joined the group.
I’ve been a Yorkshire Housing customer for over four years and live in one of their sheltered housing schemes in York. I used to work as a clinical nurse manager in a busy hospital. Now I’m retired I try to stay active in my community.
Last June, I joined Yorkshire Housing’s CVRC. I wanted to get an insight into how Yorkshire Housing does things and to keep involved in my community.
As a member of the committee, I’ve had lots of support to develop my digital skills. When we joined, Yorkshire Housing gave us all a laptop to access training, e-mails and meetings. Since then, we’ve done online training to help us prepare for our roles. We’ve had training on subjects like how to be an effective committee member and data protection. This has helped me grow my knowledge and skills for the role.
The committee has given me lots of opportunities to get involved. I volunteered to be part of a repairs scrutiny, where we took a closer look at customers’ experience of the repairs service. We’re doing this to help build a better experience of repairs for customers like me. It’s great to we’re directly involved in the process.
Recently, I became a cleaning champion for a project involving three CVRC members. Don’t worry, we’re not been scrubbing floors! We’ve helped Yorkshire Housing find a new cleaning contract that will deliver a great service. I’m looking forward to getting some feedback from customers later in the year.
I’m really proud to be part of the committee and appreciate the hard work the Yorkshire Housing team do behind the scenes. I’m looking forward to continuing my CVRC role into next year when I become an octogenarian!
