Our CEO, Nick Atkin, will lead the 23 strong partnership as housing associations commit to continue to invest in improving existing homes as well as building more affordable, low-carbon homes.
Yorkshire Housing chief executive Nick Atkin has been appointed chair of the York and North Yorkshire Housing Partnership. Gail Teasdale, chief executive of Broadacres Housing Association has been appointed vice-chair.
The York and North Yorkshire Housing Partnership, which published its prospectus earlier this year, will work with both York and North Yorkshire Councils as well as the new combined authority when formed later this year to deliver the high quality, low carbon, affordable homes the region needs. The partnership will focus on three key areas: building the right homes in the right place, the drive to net zero and boosting jobs and the local economy.
Commenting on his appointment Nick Atkin said: “I’m really proud to be taking on the role of chair.
“York and North Yorkshire has so much to offer and I'm excited to see how we can maximise the benefits from devolution across the region to create opportunities for all those living and working in the here. The devolution deal will provide powers and funding to enable York and North Yorkshire to unleash its full economic potential. This will raise living standards for its communities and build upon the area’s history of collaboration to maximise this investment.
“Housing associations have a long-term track record of providing affordable homes and supporting communities and we have an important role to play in addressing the housing needs of the local population and regenerating local areas.
“By working together on agreed housing priorities we can help to deliver the vision for the region and improve the lives of the 830,000 people who call it home.”
Gail Teasdale appointed as vice-chair said: "I’m really excited about becoming the Vice Chair of the York and North Yorkshire Housing Partnership. York and North Yorkshire has so much potential but is one of the least affordable places to live in the North so it’s vital we build more affordable homes and invest in our existing homes to ensure they are energy efficient.
“I’m really looking forward to working with all our members and partners to create a more prosperous future for the region, particularly in our rural towns and villages.”
The combined authority will elect its first mayor next year, following the York and North Yorkshire devolution deal agreed by the government in August last year. The partnership will be collectively engaging with all the mayoral candidates ahead of next year’s elections.
