Our Big Day Out came back with a bang as hundreds of Yorkshire Housing colleagues headed out to make a lasting difference to the communities we serve.
With activities including litter picking and gardening at 22 different locations, this event on no other day than Yorkshire Day was all about bringing people together and celebrating everything that makes our county great.
It was also an opportunity to spend time with customers and understand how we can continue to improve services as part of our vision to become the UK's best housing provider.
Here’s a quick summary of how the day went…
- At our Calls Wharf workspace in Leeds, we hosted a ‘Give a Few Words’ workshop with colleagues writing letters and postcards for people who are feeling isolated and lonely.
- There was gardening, games and chats with customers at our Ellerwood development in Skipton.
- Also in Skipton, we hosted a community fun day that included gardening, crafts and children’s activities at the Greatwood & Horseclose Community Centre.
- In South Yorkshire, we were laying gravel, planting and street cleaning for customers in Barnsley and Sheffield.
- And in Pickering, garden furniture was given a new lease of life with a lick of paint, plus there was more planting and weeding.
- Not far away in Duggleby, we were gardening, tidying and speaking to customers about our energy efficiency project. You can find out more about that here.
- Plus, there was much, much more!
Jo Griffin, head of place at Yorkshire Housing, said: “Our Big Day Out gets bigger and better every year, and it’s always truly inspiring to see how our colleagues and customers come together to celebrate across all of parts of Yorkshire.
“This year, we were blessed with wonderful weather, and I was pleased to see so many people enjoying the sunshine and appreciating our efforts.
“From painting to pressure washing, and gardening to graveling, we wanted to make a big difference to our customers, and it was important that what we did made a lasting difference too.
“Thank you so much to everyone who got involved!”
