Raising the Roof podcast: How can we make UK homes more sustainable?

We’re now over halfway through Season 3 of Raising the Roof and for this fifth episode we had the pleasure of hosting Jan Rosenow - one of the world’s top 25 influencers in renewable energy.

When he was just eight years old, Jan’s passion for protecting the planet saw him found an environmental group and since then he’s devoted his career towards creating a clean, fair and efficient energy system.

As well as being Director of European Programmes at the Regulatory Assistance Project, which is a global team of highly skilled energy experts, Jan’s impressive CV also boasts him as an Honorary Research Associate at Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute.

He joined our CEO Nick Atkin on the podcast for an in-depth conversation about how we can make UK homes more sustainable and whether our nation is on the right path towards achieving net zero.

Jan helps us bust myths around new heating technologies and shares his top tips on what we can all do to make our homes and planet greener.

He also helps us reflect on what progress housing associations have made to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs for customers, and we also take a wider look at what world leaders must do to ensure we avoid the worst of climate change.

“To solve this problem, we’re going to need to make much bolder and longer-term approaches to this - that would be my one ask,” Jan said.

“When it comes to renewables, the UK has really played catch up over the last decade and is now near top when it comes to offshore wind and also solar is catching on now, so the UK isn't doing badly."

To hear more of the discussion from Jan and Nick, tune into the full episode wherever you get your podcasts, including Spotify and Apple.

And if that doesn’t satisfy your podcast needs (and why wouldn't it?), then listen to our next episode which explores whether artificial intelligence is a threat or an opportunity with the help of Dr Guy Marshall, Chief Technology Officer at PorthouseDean Structural Engineers.
