Raising the Roof podcast: Unravelling the energy efficiency enigma

Season three of our Raising the Roof podcast has got off to a flyer with our very own Steve Mackenzie following on from social housing activist Kwajo Tweneboa as our second guest in the studio.

We’ve made some big changes to how we’re running the podcast this season and have some great guests lined up for our listeners.

In case you missed the latest episode, Steve is a Yorkshire Housing customer of seven years and sits as Homes and Environment Champion on our Customer Voice and Review Committee – the group which makes sure customer views are heard at all levels across our organisation.

Steve’s passionate about all things sustainability and is a vocal campaigner for greater customer engagement.

And if you recognise his voice, it’s probably because you’ve already heard Steve making an appearance as a keynote speaker at one of the several industry conferences and events he attends.

He joins our host and CEO Nick Atkin in the studio to unpick the challenges around retrofit projects and green technologies, including what housing providers and governments can do to make things easier for customers now and long into the future.

“This is not a five-year plan, this is not a one government term plan. This is now a 26-year plan and we need consistency, continuity and longevity.”

That’s just a snippet of what Steve had to say on the big changes needed to break down barriers around energy efficiency. And his feelings were shared by Nick who was keen to highlight that customer views are an essential part of the conversation.

“This isn't units, it's not houses, we are doing this work in people’s homes and that is the key thing that we need to understand," he said.

Want to hear more from Steve and Nick? Then tune into the full episode wherever you listen to your podcasts, including Spotify and Apple.

Looking further ahead for season three, our next episode is all about how to create happy workplaces, and who better to help us answer that question than Henry Stewart, Founder and Chief Happiness Officer at Happy.
