Are you looking to start your career in the housing sector and make a real difference to people’s lives? If so, a Yorkshire Housing apprenticeship may be the perfect opportunity for you!
We offer fantastic development opportunities, the chance to gain qualifications, and a rewarding career that can truly make an impact on people’s lives. So, to help your application stand out, here are some tips and advice from our Recruitment Administrator, Josh Hargreaves.
Tell us why you want to join Yorkshire Housing
When you apply for an apprenticeship with us, it’s important to highlight what’s caught your eye and why you want to join us. Here are some our favourite examples:
- We work (truly) flexibly – we believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go
- Making a real difference to people’s lives
- Working for an organisation that really cares about your health wellbeing – with a package in place to support you
- Building relationships with new people
- The chance to gain qualifications
- We offer a range of rewards, including a cash plan for things like prescriptions and eye tests, retail discounts and a matching pension plan
Take time to research the perks and show us how they align with your personal and professional goals.
Be prepared
We’ll be running assessment centres for our apprenticeship roles, so this one is a biggie! Always engage in conversation, don’t be afraid to express what’s on your mind in a group setting, listen to others, and take onboard what they’re saying. Don’t seek to be the loudest voice in the room and instead, seek to be a clear distinctive voice that lets others speak.
When answering interview questions, using the STAR method can be a useful tool to help you articulate your experiences and achievements. This involves outlining the situation (S) you faced, the task (T) that was given to you, the action (A) you took, and the result (R) that came from your actions. By using this process, you can provide a clear and concise response that demonstrates your skills and experience.
Study our culture and values
To stand out from other applicants, take time to research our culture and values. We value creating trust, being curious, making things happen, achieving impact, and having fun! In your application and interview, show us how you align with these values and how you can contribute to our culture.
Embrace diversity and inclusion
Diversity and inclusion is a top priority for us. We work actively to create a work environment that’s inclusive and diverse, where everyone can contribute their best work and be themselves.
When you apply to join us, make sure you emphasise your own commitment to diversity and inclusion and how you can contribute to creating a more inclusive workplace. We welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds and ages to apply for our apprenticeships.
Show passion and enthusiasm
One of those most important things you can do when applying for an apprenticeship with us, is to demonstrate your passion and enthusiasm for the role. This means showing an understanding of our mission and how your work can contribute towards this.
If you’re sat there thinking “I can’t quite bring everything to the role that they’re asking for, but I’m pretty confident I have loads of other skills that make me stand out” – don’t let the bullet points put you off! We’re a friendly bunch and want to get the best people in the best roles. And if that’s you, we’d love to hear from you.
Good luck to everyone applying - we can’t wait to hear from you!
