Work has started on 22 new affordable homes in Newsome, Huddersfield.
Urban Group (York) was awarded a £4 million contract and the team is now on site to deliver a mixture of two- and three-bedroom homes.
The plot off Hart Street sits by a former mill and involves the remediation and filling of two former mill ponds.
The development, designed by Brewster Bye, is due to complete in spring 2024.
Anthony Askew, Development Manager at Yorkshire Housing said:
“We’re delighted to be working with Urban Group (York) and Brewster Bye, and that this project is now underway.
“When complete, this site will provide over 20 families with high-quality affordable homes and bring us even closer towards our target of delivering 8,000 new homes by 2030.
Mark Henderson, director at architecture practice, Brewster Bye, which designed the scheme, said:
“We have longstanding relationships with both Yorkshire Housing and Urban Group (York), and after successfully guiding this scheme through the planning process, it’s fantastic to see work starting on site.
“Ultimately the development is designed to appeal to a wide range of residents and will help to address the shortage of affordable housing in a popular area within easy reach of Huddersfield town centre.”
