Yorkshire Housing supports ASB Awareness Week 2023

Yorkshire Housing has joined a national campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and keep people in Yorkshire safe.

Everyone should feel safe in their own home, and we want anyone living in or near a Yorkshire Housing home to be able to go about their day-to-day life without feeling upset, scared, or intimidated. But sometimes antisocial behaviour stops this from happening.

That’s why we’re supporting ASB Awareness Week (3–7 July 2023), organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading ASB and community safety organisation, to encourage people to take a stand against it and highlight the actions that can be taken by those experiencing it.

On our socials this week we’ll be giving you a glimpse into the incredible work carried out by our dedicated ASB and tenancy enforcement team, as well as offering practical advice and hearing from one of our customer’s who’s ASB nightmare was successfully overturned with our support.

Recent YouGov research commissioned by RESOLVE found that almost 1 in 7 people have had to consider moving home because of the impact ASB was having on them. Despite this, over half of those surveyed who were either a victim or witness of ASB did not report the ASB.

Emma Standing, a Yorkshire Housing ASB and Tenancy Enforcement Manager, said:

“I see first-hand the devastating impact that antisocial behaviour can have on individuals and their families. People’s sense of security is shattered, and their wellbeing suffers due to the relentless effects of ASB. It’s sad to see someone’s home can become a place of anxiety and fear due to the acts of others.

“But that’s why our team is so committed to tackling this issue head on and work hard to restore a sense of safety for our customers and beyond.

“Please don’t suffer in silence. If you’re experiencing antisocial behaviour or you’ve seen something you’re worried about, let us know.”

Rebecca Bryant OBE, Chief Executive of Resolve added:

“ASB is not low-level. It can have a devastating and long-lasting impact on the lives of victims and communities and can be a precursor to more serious crime.

“It is important that the challenge of ASB continues to be given the priority it needs so that people everywhere feel safe in their homes and communities.

“We are delighted that Yorkshire Housing is supporting this hugely important campaign. It is vital to develop partnership approaches across communities to deal with the growing challenges around ASB.”
