Yorkshire Housing, the region’s largest developing housing association, have teamed up with Strata Homes to build 136 affordable homes in the sought after market town of Beverley.
Strata will build the homes on behalf of Yorkshire Housing as part of their popular Minster Way development. It’s hoped work will start later this week, after planning permission was granted by East Riding Council earlier this year.
A total of 136 homes will be built across a mixture of different tenures; including 51 social rent, 66 shared ownership and 19 available as rent-to-buy.
The £37.6 million pound project has been part-funded by Homes England and it’s hoped the first homes will be ready to move into by summer 2025.
Sian Webster, director of development, assets and sustainability who visited the site this week, said: “This is a great opportunity to be able to offer customers a choice to live in what is a difficult area to find an affordable home. We’ve worked jointly with Strata to bring this development to life and hope that our ongoing partnership will allow us to deliver even more affordable homes.”
The East Riding saw a 376 percent rise in the number of homeless 16–24-year-olds or those at risk of homelessness in 2022-23 compared to the year before. Yorkshire Housing have plans to build 8000 new homes across Yorkshire as part of their plans to help ease the housing crisis. In this area average property prices are 7.4 times the average earnings in East Riding and 14 percent of households were living in fuel poverty in 2021.
Rob Larkin, Head of Pre-Construction at Strata, says “It’s great to have agreed another contract with Yorkshire Housing, a valued partner of Strata, to deliver much needed affordable housing to the Beverley area. We believe modern, energy efficient homes should be accessible to anyone, regardless of tenure, and this partnership is another important step towards this for the region.”
